Introduction

Yosemite National Park is the first national park that I’ve visited when I was 23. I had no concept of what National Parks are. In the first visit, we did just one hike “Vernal Falls via Mist Trail” and it reserved a special spot for me. For many, it is one of those places that looks familiar even before you visit it. You have seen it in photographs, movies, wallpapers, and postcards. And yet, when you finally stand there in person, it feels completely different. Vast, overwhelming, and incredibly humbling. Over the years, I have realized that Yosemite is not a place you simply visit. It is a place you experience slowly, and planning plays a huge role in that experience.

For this trip, I wanted to be intentional. Instead of figuring things out on the fly, I marked everything on Google My Maps before starting. Photo locations, simple and scenic hikes, restaurants, cafés, grocery stores, restrooms, and practical stops along the way. The goal was simple. Spend less time searching and more time being present in the valley, on the trails, and behind the camera.

This blog is a result of that planning. It is meant to help you design a Yosemite trip that feels relaxed, efficient, and meaningful. Whether you are visiting for the first time, traveling with family, or primarily going for photography, this guide will help you make the most of your time in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.

How to Plan for my Yosemite Trip

Depending on the duration of your trip, and the number of times you have been to Yosemite before, your plan will be very much personal to your choices. I have been to Yosemite at least 50 times and each time, I try to find a new place, a spot of Merced that I haven’t been before. But for starters, it can get overwhelming. I hope this may help you little bit. During summer, you might need reservations to enter the park. Check recreation.gov.

Things to consider before you begin.

  • What route would you drive.
  • Time of entry. During peak seasons, you should enter the park before 7a.m.
  • Where to stay.
  • Plan an hourly schedule. Use the below guide to accommodate.
    • Spots you prefer and mark the parking for those.
    • List of hikes. Hike supplies & clothing.
    • Coffee and Meals

There are 4 park entrances

  • Big Oak Flat
  • Arch Rock
  • South Entrance
  • Tioga Pass (closed during winter)
